Stay safe

Buy and sell with confidence.

BulBul.af is a marketplace — we connect buyers and sellers, but the meet-up, the inspection, and the cash all happen between you and the other person. Here’s how to make sure every deal goes the way it should.

The golden rules

Most deals on BulBul.af go smoothly. The ones that don’t almost always break one of these four rules:

Meet in a public place

Busy markets, shop fronts, a tea-house. Avoid empty streets, construction sites, or unfamiliar private homes.

Inspect before you pay

Test the phone, start the car, count the cash. If the seller rushes you, slow down.

Never pay in advance

No bank transfers, no mobile-money deposits to people you haven’t met. Cash on hand-over is the safest pattern.

Trust your gut

If a deal feels too good — or the story keeps changing — walk away. Another listing is always one search away.

Meeting the other side

  • Pick a daytime hour and a place you know — a shop you’ve been to, near a police chowki, or a popular café. Both sides should feel comfortable.
  • Take someone with you for big items (cars, motorcycles, expensive electronics). Two pairs of eyes spot more.
  • Don’t share your home address upfront — meet at a public landmark and only go to a home if you’ve built some trust over chat first.
  • Carry only the cash you need, and bring it in small denominations so you don’t have to count a huge bundle in public.

Before you pay

  • Phones & electronics — Power it on, dial a number, test the cameras, check the battery health. Ask for the original box if the listing says “original”.
  • Vehicles — Check the documents (registration, ownership, insurance) match the seller’s ID. Look at the chassis number against the documents. Take a test drive.
  • Property — Visit in daylight, check ownership papers (qabala/title) against the landlord’s ID, ask neighbours how long they’ve lived there. Get the rental agreement in writing.
  • Jewellery & gold — Test the karat with a trusted goldsmith before you pay. A 10-minute detour is worth it for an expensive piece.

Spotting scams

Most scams follow the same pattern: pressure, an unusual payment method, or a price that’s too low. Here’s what to watch for.

‘Pay first, I’ll ship’

Anyone asking for money before you’ve seen the item is almost certainly a scammer. Real sellers are happy to meet.

‘I’m abroad, my cousin will deliver’

Classic ploy to keep you from inspecting the item. Walk away.

Asking for OTP codes

BulBul.af, your bank, and your mobile-money provider will never ask for an OTP. If someone does, they’re trying to take over your account.

Price 60% below market

There’s no such thing as a barely-used iPhone for $80. A listing that looks unbelievable usually is.

Pressure to decide right now

“Three other buyers are coming, you have to pay now” — a real seller will give you time to think.

Tips for sellers

  • Use your own photos. Watermark them if you want — buyers trust real images more than catalogue shots.
  • Write an honest description. Mention any small defects or wear. It builds trust and saves time at meet-up.
  • Reply to messages within a day. Quick, polite replies convert browsers into buyers.
  • Verify your email and phone — the green Verified badge makes a real difference.
  • Count the cash before the buyer leaves with the item. Use a pen to mark any high-value notes if you’re worried about counterfeits.

Tips for buyers

  • Compare a few listings before you reach out. Knowing the fair price helps you spot scams and negotiate calmly.
  • Use the in-app Chat first. It keeps a record if anything goes wrong and lets you share photos / questions before driving across town.
  • Prefer sellers with the Verified badge and a few active listings — established accounts are less likely to be throwaways.
  • Ask for an extra photo of something specific (serial number, charger, tyre tread). Scammers usually can’t provide it because they don’t own the item.
